PUBLIC SCHOOLS UNITE FOR UNICEF
TEACHERS

Teachers play an important role in UNICEF Day For Change and there are many ways that teachers can get involved in this initiative.  By taking part on the day and speaking with your students about the meaning of a 'Day for Change' you're taking the first vital step towards making a real difference. For teaching resources follow the link to to the left of the page.

Funds raised in 2010 will improve education for vulnerable children in Mozambique through providing classrooms, teaching materials and water and sanitation facilities.

On way UNICEF does this is by providing School-in-a-box kits. UNICEF School-in-a-Box helps children to continue studying in an emergency or conflict situation, as it can be set up almost anywhere. For an interactive view of a box

Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. UNICEF works to provide all children with access to a quality basic education. UNICEF uses a range of innovative programs and initiatives to get all children into school, ensure that they stay there and are equipped with the basic tools they need to succeed in life. UNICEF works with local and international partners to deliver on the education and gender equality goals set out in the Millennium Development Goals.

  • Around 101 million children are out of school and the majority of these are girls.
  • Getting girls into school and ensuring they stay there has what UNICEF calls a "multiplier effect". Educated girls are likely to marry later and have fewer children, who in turn will be more likely to survive and be better nourished and educated.

Follow the links on the left of this page for more information on teaching resources, letters to parents and other curriculum links provided by the NSW Department of Education and Training and the NSW Teachers Federation . Although these links are NSW focused, they are available for all states to model their UNICEF Day for Change activities on.
